One week until the Headwaters 100!

Headwaters 100 2012 Video

I said I wasn’t going to mention the weather this year (since it worked out so well last year!) but the eternal optimist in me is hoping this 10-day weather report is somewhat accurate! How wrong can it be? (Wait, don’t answer that!)

For returning riders… We have a little surprise for those returning from 2013… Mention it at registration (in case we don’t mention it first!)

Pre-registration

Remember: If you prefer to pay by check, you can
still register on ZapEvent and opt to mail in your
check. You’ll still be guaranteed the $35 before
Sept. 22! Instructions are on the website
and on ZapEvent.com.

Friendly reminder: the last price cutoff date for the Headwaters 100 is September 21. Register on ZapEvent before the end of Sunday, September 21 and pay only $35. Registration fees go to $40 on Monday, September 22 and will remain through ride day. We will have same-day registration from 7:00 AM – 9:00 AM on ride day. However, we strongly encourage pre-registration to guarantee your requested t-shirt size availability on ride day. We’ll be asking all same-day registrants to return to the school after their ride to collect their free t-shirt, with first-come first-served on size choices. Thanks!

Registration is open at ZapEvent.com.

We’d also like to take a moment to mention safe riding. If you’re not up-to-date on the Minnesota Statutes regarding bicycles, or if you’d like to brush up, we encourage you to check out this link: 2013 Minnesota Bicycle Operation Statutes. Particularly, we’d like to remind everyone to ride no more than two abreast. Also, in the interest of communicating with your fellow riders and hearing vehicle traffic around you, please leave headphones in the car.

We DO, however, encourage the use of GoPro cameras! We love seeing what is important to you about this ride. Check out this video from 2010. (Click the link or the photo to the left to view the video.)

Route Maps

We have an official route map showing food stops- you can view it on the website and of course we will have copies available on ride day at the school.

We also have route maps on MapMyRide.com. If you have the MapMyRide app on your smart phone, you can log your ride in your account as you go. Check them out!

  • 100 mile ride: (Click for route) Follow well-marked routes through our beautiful lakes area leading you to Itasca State Park. A short hike will lead you to the Headwaters of the mighty Mississippi. The ride will follow Wilderness Drive through the park, then will proceed through Lake George, Emmaville, Dorset and Nevis; then will follow the beautiful Heartland trail Back to the finish at the Century School in Park Rapids.
  • 75 mile ride: (Click for route) This route will lead you through Itasca State Park, continue on Wilderness Drive through the park, then follow the course back to the Century School by way of Lake George, Emmaville, and Dorset. The ride will finish on the Heartland trail.
  • 45 mile ride: (Click for route) An ideal ride for bikers desiring a shorter route. A beautiful ride through Emmaville, Nevis and Back to the finish at the Century School. We encourage leisurely tourers to start early.

We will also have route maps available for you at registration. NEW this year we’ll also have a QR code so you can download a digital copy of the route map.

If you’re a fan of the Kinship spaghetti dinner that precedes the Headwaters 100 on Friday evening, you can stop by and see Itascatur and have a great dinner to start your weekend off right, all while helping Kinship. The spaghetti dinner has become a tradition for a lot of our riders and we’re pleased it’s continuing.

Spinning Classes

Community Ed in Park Rapids is offering spinning classes again this fall. Two classes are being offered on different dates, one class is full with a wait list but the other class has openings! For more about the classes, check out the Community Ed brochure online or call the office at (218) 237-6600.

Headwaters 100 Jerseys

We will have Headwaters 100 jersey sales at registration again this year. We have a few on hand, so if we have your size, it’s cash and carry! Otherwise we will order your jersey and mail it. Cost is $80 (free shipping!) and we will take cash, check or credit card for your purchase.
