Annual Meeting

January 6, 2018

 

Present: Candy Malm, Carolyn & Maurice Spangler, Barb & Mark Thomason, Barb & Greg Kalinoski, Jill & Deane Johnson, Dustin & Jessica Wirth, Florence & Carter Heeden, Eric Haugland, Noelle Kuitunen-Johnson, Phil & Brita Sailer, Diane Brophy, Mike & Sandy Perez, Betty Larson.

 

President Sandy Perez called the meeting to order at 4:00 p.m.

 

Introduction of new members: Dustin & Jessica Wirth

Member-at-Large – Eric Haugland

Mid-term Elections

Secretary – Barb Jauquet-Kalinoski

Jill/Deane Johnson moved to approve.  Carried.

 

Finance Report:

2017 Income/Expenses:

Maurice reported on a total 2017 income of $18,332.20 and expenses of $22,151.90 with a checkbook balance of $20,653.85.

2018 Spending Committee Recommendations: Chair Mike Perez reported.

Bike Racks:  $4,000 budgeted in 2016 to provide racks as needed.

 

Park Rapids Chamber – continue membership.

 

Crocus Hill Mountain Bike Course: provide $1,000 towards trail.

Phil Sailer/Mike Perez moved to support the idea of the trail but someone would have to design/build it.  Carried.  Dustin Wirth/Phil Sailer volunteered to work on finding people to do this.

 

Nordic Rocks elementary x-country ski program: $1500

Phil Sailer/Jill Johnson moved to approve.  Carried. Sandy reported that she, Candy & Janine met with elementary school personnel to help out with the Nordic Rocks ski program.  Brochures explaining the Soaring Eagle open houses were sent home with students.

 

 

Old Business

Second Street Stage

Sandy reported that Itascatur sponsored the event in June 2017 at a cost of $750 and it was a huge success .  150 kids helmets were purchased to give-away at a cost of $856 and very few are left.
Soaring Eagle Trails

Candy distributed a sign-up sheet for the 2018 open houses.  Sandy reported that the snowshoe trail is marked and a sign made to identify its location.

New Business:

Web Master Update

Shannon is redesigning the Itascatur website to add several new features. She also reported that Facebook has 335 friends, registration for the 2018 Headwaters 100 is up on Zapevents and posters will be made in June to place in community businesses.   Shannon has posted the Open Houses for Soaring Eagle and invited Shannon Geisen to write a newspaper article on the trails.

New Name for the club

A Committee was formed to recommend a new name for the Itascatur Outdoor Activity Club: Jill (Chair), Noelle, Barb J-K and Sandy.

2018 Events:

30 Days of Biking                  April 2018

Bike to Work/School            May 15-18

Headwaters 100                    9/22/18

Other Business:

PeopleForBikes Community Grant Program – received an update

Bike Opener (3rd Annual) will be held again in 2018.  Diane Brophy will represent Itascatur at the planning committee.

HRDC Bemidji – Diane Brophy discussed the statewide bicycle network and encouraged members to share their favorite bike rides with the network.

Hubbard County Recreational Plan – Eric Haugland and Phil Sailer discussed work on plan to-date. Many community groups have provided input on what they feel is important for the Park Rapids area. A website is available to make comments for those who haven’t had an opportunity to attend meetings – e.g. provide comments on the Heartland Bike Trail.

Volunteer Network Website – Mary Peterson

ACTION Park Rapids – a Volunteer database is being developed along with other initiatives.   Quarterly planning meetings are underway to work on initiatives.  Maurice will attend to represent Itascatur.

DNR Bicycle fix-it station will be added to Red Bridge Park
